THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU VISIT

Here are a few frequently asked questions before you visit the Leffel Roots Apple Orchard.  If your question isn't answered here, please don't hesitate to call us at (715)514-5171.  We will try to accommodate anyone's needs with enough notice, so all requests will be carefully considered.  Thank you for your interest in our orchard!

Do you have Pick your own apples?

Yes.  In mid-September, we have Honeycrisp and Cortland apples available for you to pick.  Honeycrisp are a fan favorite for their crunchy texture and sweet taste.  Cortlands are great for baking because they are tart, crisp, and hold their shape.  They are also great for salads because they don't get brown as quickly.  We also have several more varieties available in the store including Zestar, Pristine, Initial, Snappy Mac, Wolf River, and Galarina.

Are all of your apples available?

Zestar, Pristine, Initial, and Chestnut Crabapples are available early in the season.  Honeycrisp, Wolf River, Cortland, Connel Red, Galarina, and McIntosh are ready mid-September.

Do you have any other Pick Your Own products?

Yes!  Thanks for asking!  We have several varieties of pick your own pumpkins, including a baking pumpkin, many different squashes, gourds, and mini-gourds.  Sometimes, we also have pick-your-own sunflowers.

What kinds of payment do you accept?

We take Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Checks, and, of course, cash.

Do you have food?

We have home-made fresh whole apple pies made from our very own apples!   We also have caramel apples (plain, with nuts, and with crushed candy), fresh-pressed cider by the gallon or half-gallon and our own Leffel Roots Apple Ale by the six-pack or case.   On the weekends, our Kitchen is open 11:30-close.  At the kitchen you can purchase pie by the slice, cider and ale by the glass, as well as brats, hotdogs, and chips.   Coke products and water are also available.  Since we try to make sure everything is FRESH and keep waste to a minimum, all of our fresh baked/cooked products are while supplies last.  We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

How about apple cider?  Do you make your own?

Yes!  We make cider from our apples!  It is treated with ultraviolet light to make it safe, but can still be used to make hard cider, or your own cider vinegar.  Fresh-pressed cider has a milder taste than most store-bought cider, so come try the difference!

How will I know when the apples are ready?

We will post the dates on our Facebook page, and we send out an e-mail notification for those who are on our mailing list.

How can I sign up for the notifications?

Just like us on Facebook, or for an e-mail notification, on our website, click on the Contact Us page and fill out the Contact Us form.  Please type "newsletter" in the Subject Line!

Do you have coupons?

Yes!  Sign up for our e-mails and you'll get coupons.  You can sign up on our contact us form.  We also have coupons in the Hidden Treasures advertisement and the Tri-County Advisor that come out in September.

Do I need to bring my own picking supplies?

We have sturdy plastic bags with handles for picking in the 1/2 bushel and 1 Peck size.

Can I bring my dog?

I'm sorry, pets are not allowed.

Can I take pictures?

Of course! Graduation pictures and wedding pictures are also allowed. If you'd like to reserve a time all by yourself, let Laura know and she'll try to accommodate you.

Can I hold my wedding/event at your orchard?

We have minimal services for weddings/events, but our orchard is beautiful. We always want to share it with people.  Please talk to Laura about your ideas, and we'll see how we can accommodate you.

What should I wear?

Our orchards are meticulously maintained, but after the rain, it may be a bit muddy. You may not want to wear your Sunday best! Dress comfortably with sturdy shoes!  Also, don't forget your sunscreen!

Do you charge an admission?

We do charge admission for our largest corn maze, but we do not charge admission for our small corn maze, nor to enter our orchard or to enjoy the you-pick apples or pumpkins/squash/gourds.  You only pay for what you pick!

Can I eat lunch at the orchard?

We have brats, hotdogs, and chips for sale on the weekends.  You can also bring your own lunch.  You can bring a blanket to spread, or use one of our picnic tables.

Are you handicapped accessible?

We are so excited to be able to say YES!  We now have a special you-pick area with a raised deck so those in wheelchairs can pick apples.  It is bordered by a raised pumpkin patch so that wheelchair customers can select a pumpkin on their own.  To reach the Wheelchair you-pick site, travel of 100 ft over short-mowed grass is required;  however, we have not noticed problems with this.  We want our orchard to be a fun place for EVERYONE!  On a side note, those with crowd and noise aversions, we will also try to accommodate you.   If you have any questions, please contact Laura at 715-514-5171.

Do you have a restroom?

We have a port-a-potty for your use.  Our porta-potty is wheelchair accessible.

Can I wash my hands?

Yes!  We have a handwash station next to the porta-potty.

Do you have a store?

Yes!  Our store sells a variety of apples, squash, pumpkins, and gourds as well as our pies, caramel apples, and apple ale. In addition, you can come by to see local crafts, jellies, butters, fresh-pressed cider, home-made maple syrup, honey, caramel and much more!

Are you organic?

We are not truly organic, but we do practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM is currently the best way to balance the environment, your health, and the taste and appearance of the apples. To find out more about IPM, go to our website and click on the tree icon at the bottom of the homepage.
